Watkins Glen State Park has a beautiful gorge trail for hiking. The trail starts at the Main Entrance, which is at the base of the gorge. From here, you must work your way up several sets of stairs. At this point, you’ll be greeted with breathtaking views and waterfalls. You’ll also be able to see the stream flowing through the cliffs.
One-way hike
The Watkins Glen State Park gorge trail is a great place to get outdoors. The path is well-lit and follows the edge of the gorge. There are some breathtaking views along the way. You can also enter a small cave in the gorge.
The one-way hike through the gorge is 1.5 miles long. It’s a great place to see the 19 waterfalls that are carved into the rock by Glen Creek. Although the gorge trail is not difficult, there are some stairs. The trail takes about two hours to complete. The highest waterfall is Cavern Cascade.

The gorge trail follows a series of waterfalls. The streambed, which hugs the rim and sides of the gorge, is sinuous and unique. The gorge was once an impediment to pastoral dreams, but during the Great Depression, the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) rebuilt it. You’ll experience strong flows, which can even cause the earth to shake a bit. Fall foliage can be spectacular at this place, too. Early October to mid-October is the best time to see the beautiful colors.
