Byetta Lawsuit – Pancreatic Cancer and Pancreatitis Caused by Byetta

If you or a loved one has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer or pancreatitis after taking Byetta Lawsuit, you may have a case against the drug manufacturer. These cases are often based on product liability laws which hold manufacturers responsible for their products if they fail to warn the public of any unreasonable dangers or defects.

Pancreatic Cancer

Pancreatic cancer is one of the most common types of cancer in the United States. Its survival rate is incredibly low, and it affects people of all ages.

The disease starts when cells in the pancreas develop changes (mutations) in their DNA. These mutations allow the cancer cells to grow uncontrollably and stay alive even after normal cells would die.

Despite its high death rate, there is no known way to prevent pancreatic cancer. It can occur in any race or ethnicity, but Black Americans are much more likely to develop and die of the disease than white Americans.

Byetta is a drug that mimics the natural hormone glucagon-like peptide-1, or GLP-1. When taken, it increases the amount of insulin in the body. However, it has been linked to a higher risk of developing pancreatic cancer and other side effects.

Acute Pancreatitis

Acute pancreatitis is the sudden inflammation of your pancreas, which can be severe and dangerous. It is usually treated with a hospital stay and a low-fat diet, but some people will need intensive medical care.

Most attacks of acute pancreatitis resolve within a week or so, but a small number of people may have more serious complications. They can develop bleeding, tissue damage, infection and cysts.

The symptoms of acute pancreatitis are sudden, severe pain that starts in the upper part of your abdomen and radiates to your back. The pain is so bad that it can be disabling.

A few of the most common causes of acute pancreatitis are alcoholic pancreatitis, drug-induced pancreatitis and gallstones. Several medications are also known to cause acute pancreatitis, including some drugs for high blood pressure, insulin and steroids.

Thyroid Cancer

The thyroid is a butterfly-shaped gland found in the front of the neck, near the trachea (windpipe). It releases hormones that control body temperature, heart rate and metabolism.

Thyroid cancer develops when cells in the thyroid start to change or mutate. This causes them to grow and multiply without stopping, even when healthy cells would naturally die.

There are several types of thyroid cancers, including papillary, follicular and medullary. The outlook for each type of thyroid cancer is different.

In general, patients with papillary thyroid cancer have the best prognosis and respond very well to treatment. However, the outlook for follicular thyroid cancer and medullary thyroid cancer is not as good.

Thyroid cancer often develops slowly, without obvious signs or symptoms. Early detection and treatment can reduce your risk for spread to other parts of your body, such as the lungs or bones.

Leukemia

Leukemia is the fancy name for a disease that affects blood-forming cells in the bone marrow. It’s actually a type of cancer, but it can be treated with a variety of drugs that target the abnormal cells in the first place.

The American Cancer Society claims it’s the number one cancer in the United States, with a mortality rate of about 3%. It typically takes a long time for doctors to detect a leukemia case and often requires a biopsy and other tests.
