lab grown diamond engagement ring have risen in popularity over the past couple of years, you can now find some gorgeous designer rings featuring labs. Earlier this year Mercury Rings announced the exclusive launch of Couture by Badgley Mischka, a one-of-a-kind lab-grown diamond jewelry collection sold through independent retailers across the U.S, including Macy’s. The collection embodies all the classic elegance and timeless sophistication for which Badgley Mischka is known in the fashion world. It is also the first luxe branded lab grown diamond bracelets collection. The rings which are pictured above look SO good.

When you compare lab grown diamonds vs natural diamonds, the difference isn’t in the way they look. Lab grown diamonds are composed of crystallized carbon just like natural diamonds so the two have the same appearance and the same physical, chemical and optical characteristics. But lab-grown diamonds are manufactured by man, they didn’t form naturally in the earth. And that difference is important: here’s why. Lab-grown diamonds are less rare than natural diamonds, so they cost much less. What Is a Lab Grown Diamond?

lab grown diamond earrings– also known as synthetic diamonds, man-made diamonds, engineered diamonds, or cultured diamonds – are (you guessed it) made in a lab. Since diamonds consist of carbon atoms arranged in a crystal formation, scientists can create these diamonds by isolating carbon and layering it onto itself.

They do this one of two ways. There’s the High-Pressure High-Heat (HPHT) method, which mimics the conditions that create diamonds deep beneath the earth’s surface, and there’s Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD), which uses high heat to break carbon atoms free from their molecules, letting them settle like snow onto a flat surface until a diamond forms. A mined diamond (left) and a lab grown diamond necklaces and lab grown diamond pendants (right) can appear identical to the naked eye. Can you tell the difference?

The main difference between a lab grown diamond rings and a naturally-mined diamond is simply the way it is created. A mined diamond is formed naturally deep beneath the Earth’s crust where temperatures and pressures are very high. These diamonds can only be mined when rare volcanoes erupt and bring them close to the surface.

We imitate that same process in our lab using a High-Pressure High Temperature (HPHT) or Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) process. What starts as a diamond seed— a minuscule slice of a diamond— blossoms into a large, rough diamond as carbon atoms grow around it. These elegant pieces are grown in certified labs that use very limited energy and emit next to no emissions.
