Resturent Branding

2022 is on its way to being a big year for streaming services, none more so than Disney+. We can expect several TV shows, movies, and titles that are bound to excite all viewers. Apart from all the exciting new releases, Disney has a wide catalog that offers viewers a bunch of classics to enjoy too. For now, let us focus on everything new released on the streaming app.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

Sam Raimi directed the most recent Marvel release that is filled with surprises for the ardent fan. Raimi was last connected with the MCU for Doctor Strange but walked out due to creative differences. The Multiverse of Madness is an important movie for the fourth phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and will have many implications on Marvel’s plans.

Elizabeth Olsen will be returning as Wanda Maximoff and Benedict Cumberbatch will return to the franchise as Doctor Strange. The movie is expected to be Marvel’s first real horror movie, so viewers can expect a lot of trippy visuals that are bound to transport you to the multiverses. Once the movie is out of theaters, you will find the title on Disney+.

Lightyear

The upcoming Pixar movie being distributed by Disney is based on one of the most popular toys from the movie Toy Story, Buzz Lightyear. Lightyear will tell the story of a younger Buzz, who is stranded on a strange planet along with his crew. He will have to find his way back to Earth while confronting an oncoming danger that is threatening the safety of the universe. The movie will star Chris Evans as the younger Buzz, who is still early quite early in his career. The movie will also star Taika Waititi, Keke Palmer, and Uzo Aduba. After its release in June 2022, the movie will be available for stream on Disney+.

Moon Knight

Moon Knight was one of the most anticipated shows of the year that was released at the end of March. The six episodes were met with positive reviews until the end and all fans appreciated the darker tone. Oscar Isaac played Marc Spector, Steven Grant, and the surprising Jake Lockley. Steven Grant suffers from dissociative identity disorder to deal with the trauma of his childhood and he slowly learns to deal with his alters. In the mix of this is the Egyptian god, Khonshu, who has chosen Marc as his alter to deal out justice to wrongdoers across the world.

Disenchanted

Fifteen years after the release of Disney’s Enchanted, Amy Adams and Patrick Dempsey is returning to the screens in the long-awaited sequel, Disenchanted. The movie is set to stream on Disney+ in Fall 2022.

The movie will be set in recent times, where the world has gotten more cynical and harsher in the years since Enchanted, but the movie will no doubt raise our low spirits. The original cast is back, which includes James Marsden and Idina Menzel. A bunch of new characters have also been brought on board such as Maya Rudolph, Jayma Mayz, and Oscar Nunez.

Hocus Pocus 2

Another sequel returning to the screens, 29 years after the original is Hocus Pocus 2. The movie will see the return of the original cast that includes Sarah Jessica Parker, Kathy Najimy, and Bette Midler as the Sanderson Sisters. The original was a Halloween cult classic, and the second movie is bound to be no different. The sequel will follow three high-school students who have to work together to stop the returned Sanderson Sisters. The movie will release on Disney+ on 30 September 2022.

Pinocchio

2022 is also a very big year for Pinocchio fans. Of the four versions released this year, Disney also has its own version of Pinocchio ready for release. Disney’s version stars Tom Hanks as the woodcarver Geppetto, who goes on to build Pinocchio. Benjamin Evan Ainsworth will play Pinocchio, the little wooden boy who we know will turn into a real boy by Cynthia Erivo, the Blue Fairy. Pinocchio will release on Disney+ in September 2022.

Obi-Wan Kenobi

Disney is on track to release a bunch of Star Wars shows, one of its most recent being The Book of Boba Fett. Its most anticipated series this year, however, is none other than Obi-Wan Kenobi. The news of the show was first announced in August 2019, with Deborah Chow directing the show. Ewan McGregor is returning to reprise his role as Obi-Wan, seventeen years after he last appeared in the prequel trilogy. The show is set to premiere on 27 May, 2022, on Disney+ with two episodes releasing on the same day.

In more exciting news, Hayden Christensen will also be returning as Darth Vader, which has become one of the major talking points for the show. Chow explained that they couldn’t imagine Kenobi’s story, not including Darth Vader aka Anakin Skywalker. In addition to this Joel Edgerton will also return to reprise his role as Owen Lars, who according to the trailer, is not keen on Kenobi teaching young Luke Skywalker. No doubt, fans are going to love every second of the show that is bringing back one of the most iconic characters of the franchise.

Andor

Another upcoming show that has Star Wars fans excited is Andor. The show will see the return of the Diego Luna as Cassian Andor, who we last saw in Rogue One. While COVID-19 delayed the production of the show, the recent Vanity Fair interview revealed that the show is set to release in the summer of 2022. The show is set five years before the events of Rogue One and will also see the return of Mon Mothma. Star Wars fans will be content this year with everything releasing on the streaming platform.
