Day 2: Gulmarg to Khilanmarg
Distance: 8 km
Time taken: 3-4 hours (depending on your pace)
It takes about 2 hours to reach Khilanmarg, which is the base camp of Ladakh. The route is mostly downhill and through pine forests, so it’s great for beginners who want to try out skiing in a natural environment.
Day 3: Trekking to Alpather Lake
The trek to Alpather Lake is a challenging climb that involves a lot of climbing and descent. The altitude at which you reach the lake makes it an ideal camping spot for those who want to experience high altitude trekking without getting too tired after each day’s hike.
The best time to visit this lake is from May to September, when there are fewer tourists and access becomes easier due to less crowding on the trail (which takes around 5 hours).
Day 4: Skiing at Apharwat Range
Skiing at Apharwat Range
Skiing at Apharwat Range is a unique experience for the beginners as well as for the professional skiers. The range offers four slopes and two double chairlifts, one quad chairlift and one surface lift that connects all slopes together. You can enjoy your time here by riding down on to the snow while enjoying beautiful views of mountains, valleys and glaciers.
Day 5: Gulmarg Free day for optional activities
On a free day in Gulmarg, you can simply chill at your hotel and enjoy the view.
The weather in Gulmarg is largely dry with an average temperature of 28 degrees Celsius (82F). There are plenty of activities you could do on a free day in Gulmarg. You could go skiing, snowboarding or snow shoeing on the mountain side where there is no snowfall during winters but instead has glaciers which are visible from some distance away from the base station of Gauri Shankar Temple located at about 3km from main town itself.-
Day 6: Gondola ride
From the Gondola ride, you can see Gulmarg from a different perspective. It’s a good opportunity to take photos and enjoy the view of the resort and snow-capped mountains.
The ride lasts around 20 minutes with stops at some places along the way so that you can take pictures in your own time. The gondola isn’t a ski lift; it doesn’t transport skiers up to higher altitudes or down below ground level like normal lifts do! Instead, it takes passengers directly towards their destination—which happens to be very close by!
Day 7: Departure from Srinagar
After getting settled in the hotel, you should pay a visit to the airport. The flight back home is fast and efficient. You have your luggage, passport and boarding pass in hand. You’re ready to go!
