Hello Spring!

Spread the love

It’s official! Spring fever is well and truly underway.

The days are warmer, longer and there is a certain buzz in the air. In go the bulky sweaters and out come the bold colours and floral prints. The spring season, however also comes with the rise of the common allergic reactions such as hay fever, rhinitis and congestion. Many of us suffer such symptoms, with 1 in 5 Australians experiencing rhinitis every year, especially those aged between 15 – 64 years.

Signs and symptoms to look out for include:

  • Runny nose & nasal congestion
  • Watery, itchy and red eyes
  • Itchy ears and throat
  • Sneezing
  • Cough
  • Fatigue
  • Headaches
  • General feeling of being unwell

Some over the counter treatments can assist with these symptoms. Doctors and clinicians, however, believe that using nasal barriers (such as Vaseline or balm across entrance of nose), wearing sunglasses when outside, monitoring the weather and pollen count, cleaning your pets, shutting windows especially at night (pollen count is high at this time) as well as changing linen, bedsheets and clothes are ways in which to naturally limit allergic reactions.

It is a shame that these allergic reactions can affect your daily life but by taking precautions and researching ways to avoid the pollen-polluted times of the day is incredibly helpful. This is very important for young children and older adults.

In some instances, your doctor or clinical may refer for a scan to further investigate such symptoms. We offer CTMRI and X-ray services at our sites and will accommodate to your needs.
