It’s hard to know where to start your career in digital. You may have a degree or two and find that you don’t want an office job, but need a way to turn your education into a career. A great way is by getting internships and these days it can be done remotely with the use of web votes and virtual conferences. I’ll give you an example: some marketing companies offer on the job internships that require them to hire new talent after two months if they are satisfied with their work quality.
The work isn’t only limited to one company, so it can be an easy way for people in all different fields of study – from public relations professionals to computer programmers -to gain experience in the professional world.
Which learning path is right for you?
So you want to learn how to become a self-made digital marketer and make the world a better place through entrepreneurship? If so, I applaud your entrepreneurial spirit. It is no easy feat, but it’s never too late! Below are three different paths that you can take in order to learn digital marketing and provide great value for businesses.
Local Community College – First off, community colleges are an affordable way for you to receive all of the core classes that are required for upper-level education in fields such as business, psychology, or computer science.
What should you invest in?
Being a self-made expert in the field of digital marketing is challenging and difficult, so it may not be possible for you. If you’re determined, I would recommend doing the following: find a company or company representative who can guide you through your education on how to become an expert; in doing this, you’ll also gain access to corporate networks and connections for potential mentorships.
Where should you go to learn the skills?
The best way to learn digital social media skills is through an internship with a company that already has a presence on the major social media platforms. When looking for internships, search for companies in your geographic area, or within the industry you are interested in. Here are a few places that have digital marketing internships: Nike (Portland, OR), Abercrombie & Fitch (New Albany, OH), Reebok International Ltd. (Cheshire, CT). And now I am sure that you know how to become a self made digital marketing expert.
What can you apply what you learn now?
After completing this course, you will have the skills and knowledge that most Digital Marketing Interns have. You’ll be able to identify what type of blog post would best target a specific audience, with insights on how you can use it for digital marketing campaigns.
You’ll also learn the ins and outs of designing a blog page, including all the different types of posts that you can create on your blog in order to better engage readers. With these new-found skills, you’ll be able to ace any job interview as well as have a leg up on other competitors for a digital marketing position in the near future.
If you’re looking for a break from school and want a career in digital marketing, I would suggest doing what I did: find digital marketing internships. When I was in high school, I got my first internship at a local publishing company that focused on blogging, advertising and social media.
From there, it wasn’t too difficult to find another internship at an advertising agency in downtown Austin where I learned how branding campaigns worked. These internships are the best way to build your resume with valuable skills while still learning about yourself. With some good networking and luck, you might just be able to land a job straight out of school!
