How to Prepare glass furniture for a smooth move

Moving glass furniture can be a delicate process, as it requires proper care and handling to ensure the items reach their destination intact.

Follow these steps to prepare glass furniture for a smooth move:

Gather necessary supplies: You will need packing materials such as bubble wrap, packing paper, cardboard, packing tape, moving blankets, and furniture pads. You may also need specialized moving boxes for glass items, such as mirror/picture boxes or telescopic boxes, if possible.

Disassemble if possible: Remove any detachable parts from your glass furniture, such as shelves or glass tabletops. This will make it easier to pack and transport the items.

Clean the glass: Wipe down the glass surfaces to remove dust and debris, which can cause scratches during the move.

Wrap glass parts: Wrap each glass component separately in packing paper, followed by a layer of bubble wrap. Use packing tape to secure the wrapping, ensuring the tape doesn’t come into direct contact with the glass.

Protect edges and corners: Use cardboard to reinforce the edges and corners of your glass items. Cut strips of cardboard and tape them securely to the edges and corners to provide additional protection.

Use furniture pads or moving blankets: For larger items like glass tables, wrap the entire piece in a furniture pad or moving blanket. Secure the blanket or pad with packing tape or moving straps.

Pack in boxes: If you have glass components that can fit into specialized moving boxes, place them in the boxes, ensuring they are snug and secure. Fill any empty spaces with crumpled packing paper or additional bubble wrap to prevent movement during transit.

Label the boxes: Clearly label the boxes containing glass items with “Fragile” and “Glass” to alert the movers to handle these boxes with extra care. Also, indicate which side should be facing up.

Load with care: When loading glass furniture onto the moving truck, ensure the items are placed in a secure and stable position. Avoid stacking heavy items on top of the glass, and try to keep them away from other large or heavy furniture that could shift during transit.

Communicate with movers: Make sure to inform your movers about any fragile or delicate items, so they are aware and can handle them with extra care.

By following these steps, you can help ensure your glass furniture is well-protected and ready for a smooth move.
