Is Delta-8 THC toxic to the body?

Delta-8 THC is an uncontrolled hemp compound. There are currently no laws governing child-proof packaging, laboratory testing, or unambiguous labeling of delta-8 product dose or potency. The Agency for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) both actually issued health warnings concerning delta-8 THC in October 2021. Poison Control Centers received 661 reports about delta-8 intake between December 2020 and June 2021. A startling 39% of those calls were about minors under the age of 18.

The majority of Poison Control calls were regarding symptoms that are similar to the effects of taking too much cannabis (marijuana). Pure delta-8 is just as safe as pure delta-9 in order to be healthy. However, there is no safe level in practice because there is no guarantee of purity (due to lack of regulation).  The cannabis plant produces hundreds of distinct compounds that can interact with the human body. The most frequent compounds found in the cannabis plant are delta-9 THC and cannabidiol (CBD).

The presence of naturally occurring Delta-8 is extremely rare. When the plant is exposed to light and air, small amounts of delta-9 are converted to delta-8. Because there is so little delta-8 in the plant, manufacturers must create it in a facility using hemp-derived CBD as the raw ingredient. Strong acids are employed to transform CBD into this more mind-altering compound.

This blog provides details about the cons and harms of the Delta-8 THC. Pure delta-8 cannot cause overdose mortality in healthy humans. However, because the hemp market is unregulated, these goods may be polluted with heavy metals, herbicides, and mold, in addition to residual chemicals, from the manufacturing process. Essentially, purchasing delta-8 items entails the same hazards as purchasing illegal cannabis.

Because delta-8 and delta-9 THC are so close, they generate some of the same adverse effects, such as:

  •       burning eyes
  •       dry lips
  •       fast heart rate
  •       Coordination issues
  •       slowed reaction times.
  •       Anxiety-related memory loss

However, because delta-8 is a man-made material, consumers may not understand exactly what’s in it.

Conclusion:

The delta-8 molecule is probably no more toxic than ordinary delta-9 THC. However, the manufacturing process for delta-8 goods allows a lot of possibility for error and inadvertent poisoning with other severe chemicals. You don’t gain any of the benefits that you would with licensed cannabis products because delta-8 THC is now a legally murky area. Lab testing, appropriate labeling, childproof packaging, and other fundamental safety precautions simply do not exist.
