Researchers and healthcare news have identified genes that may cause ‘uncombable hair syndrome’, a rare hair disorder. This disorder affects only scalp hair and appears to have a genetic basis.

It affects only scalp hair

If you notice that your hair is uncombed and brittle, you may have Uncombable Hair Syndrome. If you’re suffering from this condition, you should not use harsh shampoos and conditioners. Instead, use a soft brush to comb your hair. Don’t worry; the problem will clear up on its own.

This condition is caused by genetic mutations. Generally, affected individuals have straw or silver-colored hair that doesn’t lie flat. The hair can be swollen or be in the form of a triangular to heart-shaped groove along the length of the hair shaft. Most people with this condition notice an improvement in their condition as they grow older.

The disorder is rare, with only about 100 cases reported in the scientific literature. It is usually caused by a genetic mutation in the PADI3 or TGM3 genes. These genes encode proteins that give the hair its structure.

It is a rare condition

Uncombable hair syndrome is a rare genetic hair shaft disorder. It typically affects children between the ages of three and twelve and is characterized by a wavy or uncoiling straw or silver-blonde hair. Researchers haven’t yet found a cause for the disorder.

A new study suggests that a single gene is responsible for uncombed hair. This is good news for children with this disorder, as it could result in a treatment. However, further studies are needed to confirm the diagnosis. To make a diagnosis, the hair must be analyzed by microscopy.

This new discovery could lead to the development of genetic tests for uncombable hair syndrome. These tests would confirm if a child had an inherited mutant gene. This would help parents who are concerned that their child might suffer from the disorder. In addition, the new data could be used by drug companies to develop new treatments. However, drug companies are unlikely to be interested in this condition at the moment.

The new study studied 107 individuals with the syndrome. Of these, 80 of them had a genetic cause for the condition. The researchers discovered that mutations in the PADI3 gene, which codes for an enzyme that helps to produce trichohyalin, the main protein found in hair, caused the syndrome. While the condition is relatively rare, scientists believe many more people are affected.

Genetic tests are available to diagnose it

Currently, three genes are associated with uncombable hair syndrome. These genes are PADI3, TGM3, and TCHH. These genes are involved in the development of the hair shaft. The disorder is inherited in an autosomal recessive or autosomal dominant manner, and a genetic test can determine whether a person has this disorder. However, this disease is not curable and the hair abnormalities tend to resolve on their own.

Uncombable hair syndrome is a genetic condition with varying degrees of severity. The symptoms of this disorder include wiry, dry hair that stands straight up from the scalp. It is usually hard to comb the hair, and it is impossible to diagnose by using combing alone. A physician may perform genetic tests to determine if you have the disorder.

Uncombable hair syndrome is a rare hair condition characterized by a triangular or heart-shaped arrangement of hair follicles. In addition, the hair is flat and cannot be combed evenly along its length. This disorder usually presents itself during childhood and improves as a child reaches puberty. In one case, an individual with uncombable hair syndrome had spontaneous remission of the condition.
