We are disscusing about Deepti Rohilla: The Girl Who Scored Highest in Geography Optional This Time Secured AIR 39 in UPSC Result Announced in 2024:

  • Deepti had a background in humanities, so she knew the basic approach and content required for this examination. She needed guidance aligning it to the UPSC exam, so she took coaching for GS and the Optional paper.
  • For Prelims, she mainly focused on her static portion and practiced the previous year’s question papers from the last twenty years many times, which helped her solve the questions. After completing her static portion, she also gave mock tests subject-wise.
  • She read the newspaper daily for current affairs, which helped her interlink the static with the current part and write examples of the actual answers in the examination. She did it according to the syllabus.
  • For Mains, she made notes on every subject and used notes on toppers, which helped her write good answers to the exam. She also added value to her notes from the newspaper. She used to study two subjects in a day and make notes simultaneously.
  • Her Optional Subject was Geography, which overlaps with other GS Subjects. This helped her immensely when making notes, which became handy during the last-minute revision.
  • For the Interview, she preferred the transcripts of the topper’s interview and gave mocks. She also stressed current affairs by reading daily newspapers, which was vital to the interview.
  • She also stressed revising whatever she studied in a day by revising it the next morning. This reduced her revision time, which immensely helped her during the last minute, just before the examination.
  • Her mother also helped her prepare for the History part, and her brother, who is at IIT Delhi, also helped her prepare for the CSAT.

She also advised students to identify their strengths and weaknesses and plan accordingly. It should not be copied from any topper. She also emphasized relying on the previous year’s question papers as they are instrumental during the preparation.

Hobbies

Deepti enjoys listening to podcasts by Robert Greene and Andrew Huberman on Neuroscience, which helped her tackle difficult times during her preparation.

Conclusion

Like many others, Deepti also felt low during her preparation journey. Still, she expressed her gratitude to her supportive parents and very few but quality friends, who helped to keep her sanity and pushed her towards her goal, which ultimately became a reality for her. Her success exemplifies how, with faith, hard work, and diligent preparation, one can achieve one’s dreams without thinking about the result and only focus on the preparation honestly.
