In the year 1993, he gave a mind-blowing performance at a concert in Los Angeles, where he caught the eye of the rapper, Snoop Dogg. It was Snoop Dogg who gave Shad his stage name “Lil’ Bow Wow”. Lil’ Bow Wow made an appearance on the track, “Gz and Hustlas” of Doggystyle (Snoop Dogg’s debut album) and also in the music video of “Gin and Juice.” In 1998 when Shad was just eleven years old, he crossed paths with Jermaine Dupri, a record producer, who would become his mentor and prove a great help in shaping his career. A year after that, in 1999, the movie Wild Wild West‘s soundtrack featured his song “The Stick Up” with Jermaine Dupri.

In 2000, at the young age of 13, Shad dropped his first album ‘Beware of Dog’ under the stage name Lil’ Bow Wow. This album turned into a huge hit and by 2009 sold over 3 million copies. In 2003, he released Unleashed, his third album as well as the first under the modified stage name Bow Wow. The album comprised songs like “Let’s Get Down” featuring Birdman, and “My Baby” featuring Jagged Edge. In September of 2003, Unleashed was certified gold. In 2005, Wanted was released, with its first single being “Let Me Hold You“, featuring Omarion, and the second single, “Like You“, featuring Ciara. The album went on to be certified platinum.
