Initially, Tracey Ullman was unimpressed with Castellaneta when he auditioned for a role in “The Tracey Ullman Show.” However, Ullman decided that she would fly to Chicago in order to watch Castellaneta perform live. This was the best decision she made as seeing him perform that night brought tears to her eyes. Ullman was clearly enamored by his performance, leading to him landing the gig. This paved the path to “The Simpsons,” with the role of Homer Simpson garnering him a lot of recognition and fame.

Apart from “The Simpsons,” Castellaneta has appeared in several other television series like “ALF,” “Campus Ladies,” “Everybody Loves Raymond,” “How I Met Your Mother,” “NYPD Blue,” “That ’70s Show,” and “Desperate Housewives.” On February 22, 2000, Castellaneta published his first music CD Two Lips,” which was followed by his first comedy CD “I Am Not Homer” on April 23, 2002.

Initially, “The Tracey Ullman Show” began to air animated shorts revolving around a dysfunctional family. The members who were part of the “The Tracey Ullman Show” were requested to provide their voices for the characters and this was how Castellaneta ended up with the role of  Homer Simpson, the father of the family.

Homer Simpson was supposed to sound like Walter Matthau, an actor, however, Castellaneta soon discovered that he could not keep up with that voice for the recording sessions that lasted for long hours. So he went on to maintain a voice that would be more manageable for him to keep up with.

Three seasons later, “The Simpsons” separated from “The Tracey Ullman Show,” receiving its very own spot. His role as Homer Simpson brought him widespread recognition and he went on to win many awards such as four Primetime Emmy Awards and two Annie Awards, to name a few.

Until the year 1998, Castellaneta received an amount of $30,000 per episode. A pay dispute took place in 1998, leading him to receive an increase in his salary.  Until 2004, the voice actors were paid $125,000 per episode, but then they demanded that they be paid $360,000 an episode.

Castellaneta and the other members agreed to a 25 percent pay cut, with them net worth of $300,000 per episode.

Castellaneta and his wife Deb Lacusta have also written some episodes for “The Simpsons” including the episodes titled “Gump Roast,” “The Ziff Who Came to Dinner,” and “Kiss Kiss, Bang Bangalore,” and “The Fight Before Christmas.” Moreover, apart from voicing Homer Simpson, Castellaneta has also voiced several other characters from the show, including Krusty the Clown, Barney Gumble, Sideshow Mel, Mayor Quimby, and Hans Moleman, Abraham “Grandpa” Simpson, and Groundskeeper Willie.
