Pete Clay Carroll was born on September 15, 1951, in San Francisco, California, to Rita and James Edward “Jim” Carroll. His mother Rita was a teacher at Stuartholme school. He grew up in Greenbrae. He went to Greenbrae School, which was followed by Redwood High School, Larkspur, California.

Although he was quite an active athlete in his childhood, Carroll did not grow much physically as a teenager. This brought him extreme frustration. Moreover, he weighed just 50kg as a freshman and hence, was asked to get a doctor’s clearance if he wished to partake in playing football.

Carrol then decided to test himself in the NFL and in 1984, landed a job as a defensive backs coordinator coach for Buffalo Bills. After working as a defensive backs coordinator coach for the Minnesota Vikings from 1985 to 1989, he finally filled the position of head coach for the New York Jets in 1994. Prior to being their head coach, Carroll served as their defensive coordinator from 1990 to 1993. However, his luck ran out and he was fired after just one season.

Mora was fired after one season. In his first season, Seattle successfully gained victory over their rival Rams, becoming the first 7–9 team in NFL history to win a division title, and then went on to defeat the then-Super Bowl Champions New Orleans Saints by a score of 41-36 during the Wild Card Round. However, they were soon defeated by the Chicago Bears. In 2011, the team was defeated by their division rival San Francisco 49ers. 

In 2012, Carroll took the team home undefeated. Moreover, the 2012 season was also Carroll’s first winning season for the Seahawks.
